• Small Business Minister Margot James announces the winners of the fourteenth Enterprising Britain Awards.

  • Winners celebrated for encouraging entrepreneurialism include Hull City, North Tyneside Council, Business West and Aldershot Enterprise Centre.

Aldershot Enterprise Centre has been Highly Commended by the judges for the Enterprising Britain Awards in recognition of their successful two-year programme helping local businesses to start up and grow.

The Enterprising Britain Awards are part of the Government’s drive to support entrepreneurial activity in the UK. Managed by Investment in Young People on behalf of the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), the awards celebrate the work of public sector and government-backed organisations that support and encourage entrepreneurialism across the UK.

The awards, which are now in their fourteenth year, are given in different categories including “Start-Up Spirit”, “Support for Exporting” and “Building Enterprise Skills.”  Aldershot Enterprise Centre was recognised as having success in building enterprise skills, having created over 40 new enterprises and created over 80 jobs for the military and local populations of Rushmoor through the Enterprise Centre.  Judges were impressed by Aldershot’s wide-ranging approach to and supporting entrepreneurs and businesses, as well as the integration of the different communities across North East Hampshire.

Peter Grant, Chief Executive of WSX Enterprise who run the Centre said:

“The Enterprising Britain Awards are a fantastic reminder of what can be achieved when we bring together local knowledge and leadership to provide targeted support to entrepreneurs and the innovative businesses they build.

I want to congratulate Aldershot Enterprise Centre on being recognised with this Award. Small businesses are vital to our economy, and Aldershot is a great example of how the right support can have a huge effect on helping them to start and grow.”
