On 1 March 2017, the European Commission published its White paper on the future of Europe as the starting point for a wide-ranging debate on tomorrow’s Europe. A key milestone will be the presentation of the Commission’s proposal for the multi-financial framework in May 2018.
5 scenarios for the future EU budget are discussed in the Reflection paper on the future of EU finances. Options range from reducing spending for existing policies to increasing revenues:
- Will the EU simply carry on?
- Do less together?
- Move ahead at different levels of intensity
- Do less but more efficiently
- Do much more together?
Citizens’ are welcome to express their views on the multi-financial framework through a range of different consultation activities including open public consultation.
