The long-awaited document, setting out the UK’s plan, outlines five key objectives. Below is a statement from the UK Government and a link to the white paper itself.

Michel Barnier, the Chief Negotiator for the 27 EU countries, made this statement on Twitter:

We will now analyse the #Brexit White Paper w/ Member States & EP, in light of #EUCO guidelines. EU offer = ambitious FTA + effective cooperation on wide range of issues, including a strong security partnership. Looking forward to negotiations with the #UK next week.

The UK Government has added this statement alongside the White Paper:

The United Kingdom will leave the European Union on 29 March 2019 and begin to chart a new course in the world. The Government will have delivered on the result of the 2016 referendum – the biggest democratic exercise in this country’s history. And it will have reached a key milestone in its principal mission – to build a country that works for everyone. A country that is stronger, fairer, more united and more outward-looking.

We now have to wait for the next set of negotiations, and see how the UK Governments view of a post-Brexit relationship matches with the European Unions.
